What do you have to do? Notice, recognize and name your emotions! Be aware of their interrelations because emotions are always a consequence of a stimulus, thought, or another emotion. The maneuvering skills of the emotions are more lumpish than your thoughts'. If a good or a bad feeling occurs in you, it usually takes time until it fades, or changes direction. For this reason, never react rapidly in a fierce emotional state. Wait until the fast-and-furious thoughts, and the lumpish emotions, stabilize on the same level. Recognize, understand, and accept not only your own, but others' emotions too! You can try the following exercise to become aware of others' emotions: ask your friend to try to be very furious or very affectionate! Ask her/him not to show any sign of those feelings, only to imagine them inside! Close your eyes, and notice what happens! Feel how the emotions are whirling inside you, as a result of your friend's presence! Distinguish them from your own emotions! You will not be able to name your friend's emotion, but in most of the cases you will be able to recognize if it is a good or bad emotion.
